BIG BRAKE / N90 WHEELS 17'' - 02/12/18 11:37 AM

ok, I have been searching for a LONG time everywhere. Has anybody DONE C5 caliper/rotor (12.8'') upgrade with the N90 17'' rims ? or am I limited to LS1 12'' rotors with these rims? thanks in advance , axld.

Re: BIG BRAKE / N90 WHEELS 17'' - 02/12/18 01:31 PM

I'm confident the C5 rotor will fit, and I've seen a picture out there somewhere.....I'll start checking as well.

I've got the old school B-body/1LE brakes now which will fit inside a stock N90.

I'm fairly certain it will, I searched for this very info not that long ago and found a thread where someone confirmed it or is even running this combination.

While not the exact answer to your question, there is this: N90's with Baer's 13 inch rotor, Track4 system.

I remember a couple years back, a member of the forum installed C5 front brakes with 17" N90 rims. He posted pics that showed that the C5 brakes did fit.

Thanks everybody ! I am ready to pull the trigger on the next upgrade ( brakes) which I need badly upfront , my QUICK PERF 9"- 11 " drum brakes over powers the fronts. BTW, 200kss that is one nice monte !I read about it some time back, guess I forgot his set up.

Now, WHAT spindles to use!!! I drive my car hard on the weekends through some nice twisties ( used to doit on sport bikes )and I live fairly close to 2 drag strips and Sebring. I am thinking the ZQ8 with bigger bearings? I think Marcus from SC&C recommends it for the C5 platform.

Re: BIG BRAKE / N90 WHEELS 17'' - 02/14/18 12:31 AM

Baer 11" SS4+ and 13" Track 4 work well with the Year One wheels. We`ve used them with a few models with no issues. C5/C6 brakes will not work (without a fairly thick spacer which would throw off the back spacing and be hokey anyway...). The mounting pad on the back side of the Year One wheels is just too short to work with the C5/C6 very shallow .400" rotor hat depth. We do a custom SC&C StreetComp Baer Pro+ brake http://scandc.com/new/node/1073 for the AFX aluminum spindles that uses a deep hat like the Track 4 on a C6/C6 format brake application but they`re 14" rotors so they won`t fit into 17" wheels. It`s a bummer, I really like the N90 wheels.

Re: BIG BRAKE / N90 WHEELS 17'' - 02/14/18 01:19 AM

Well that would really rain on my parade, this is the combo I am planning to do, this year. Here is the link/pics/info of C5 brakes working with the N90's.

http://www.montecarloss.com/community/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=934281

I realize that is using the Blazer spindles, not AFX however.

Marcus, any insight on that? Was assuming the mounting between the Blazer and AFX spindle as far as the brakes go wouldn't be that drastic or enough to cause a caliper to not clear on one but can on the other.

My impression was AFX/C5's work with most 17"s, I believe TT2's will interfere with the caliper but clear with a small spacer.

Re: BIG BRAKE / N90 WHEELS 17'' - 02/15/18 01:21 PM

confused again! I was going to do the Blazer spindle with C5 brakes with my N90 17''x 4.25 back space rims. So Marcus you say that they wont fit , and PB86 put up that link that they work? btw, I could not view any pics.

Re: BIG BRAKE / N90 WHEELS 17'' - 02/15/18 02:22 PM

I couldn't view the pictures either, they are hosted at Image Shack and it appears his account is gone from there. I spoke with Marcus yesterday (thanks Marcus!) and he answered my questions, one was this issue. He said with a spacer they might very well clear but confirmed these rims won't clear the C5 setup. Not the answer I want but I might consider it, if the spacer is small enough. I also had a question to Year One and submitted a template from Kore 3 for the 325mm rotors and C5 calipers, Year One offered to check the wheel. "mondotti"/Matt did this when looking back at his post I realized, but I already sent Year One the e-mail, so we'll see what they say this time laugh .

I also had a brief exchange with Matt, he confirmed the AFX/C5/N90 combination fits great(he recently switched from Blazer to AFX spindles), I plan to talk to him to find out more information later today. Will add anything I find that is helpful. Maybe Marcus was using a N90 with 5" backspacing? I did read that those won't work with C5 brakes, somewhere.

Re: BIG BRAKE / N90 WHEELS 17'' - 02/15/18 09:34 PM

Latest in the saga grin , discussed things with Matt a bit, he bought the wheels when they came out, no spacers needed, fits great. Year One responded to me this morning that the Kore 3 template I sent them, same one Matt did years ago probably, fits the wheel after checking. This template is of the AFX with C5 calipers/rotors. There could be a chance something in production changed over the years not letting them work with the calipers now, even though they confirmed the template works with the rim this morning. Year One fielded calls from Matt and Marcus today about this and should respond hopefully soon, I also added the question in my e-mail to them not knowing they had contacted Year One already, so they have a few people asking the same question lmao . Sounds promising to me, but will wait to hear from Year One on this.

well thanks for doing the leg work so far PB86, hope it works out for us, the LS1 kit is always a back up plan. I already bought the blazer spindles , and order new hubs.

Re: BIG BRAKE / N90 WHEELS 17'' - 02/16/18 12:54 AM

I'd like to do the 17" n90's also but wasnt sure if they would clear my front brakes. the 17" TT2's BARELY clear. I have the ls1 front rotors and brackets but using a c6/gto caliper.
Posted By: PB86SS/87LS

Re: BIG BRAKE / N90 WHEELS 17'' - 02/16/18 02:34 PM

I plan to run my TT2's with the C5 calipers I have, from what I read they will clear with a small spacer. I plan to do the N90's later in the year when funds allow, new steering box/spindles/UCA's are about as much as I can or want to spend at this point. So your TT2's clear a C6 caliper? Any pictures?

Re: BIG BRAKE / N90 WHEELS 17'' - 02/16/18 03:18 PM

All my pictures I have are on photobucket. whats the easiest host site to use now?

I have the calipers from my donor car, 2006 gto on my car. The are supposedly the came caliper as the c6 corvette with out the corvette lettering. When I was doing my brake swap I talked to Tobin at Kore3 and he said that that the c5/c6 brakes wouldnt clear the TT2's.

So I went with the ls1 front brake rotor and pad abutment bracket, but used the gto/c6 caliper. The corvette calipers will bolt right on to the ls1 f body brackets. the calipers are very close to the rim, and I can see how with the larger corvette rotor they wouldnt clear with out a spacer.

Some allow me to link, some didn't. Picked a few that might helpful to others. There is a link with each picture that let's you paste, just need to trim down the link using the *[img] [/img]* codes.

If you still have pics on photobucket you want to share, the embedded photobucket fix works. I got lucky and left all my pics up and if osmeone uses the fix they can now see them all again.

I won't put anymore pics up there though, the site is horrid to use. I use smugmug. It's not free, but it works great.

Stock modified spindle with the ls1 brake setup. only difference is I'm running the gto/c6 calipers.

Re: BIG BRAKE / N90 WHEELS 17'' - 02/19/18 12:11 AM

What size rotor you have there?? 12"? I would like to run at least a 13" rotor but I also have the ATS spindles.

I'm selling the house and buying the new one soon. Then building my nicer garage about double the size I have now. I will buy a lift for sure this time, I'm done crawling on the floor!

Re: BIG BRAKE / N90 WHEELS 17'' - 02/19/18 03:39 AM

If you plan to run the C5 (C6/GTO should be the same size essentially IIRC) calipers with the 13” rotors you should be fine, per Year One when fitting the template from Kore 3 and also mondotti’s first hand experience. The only question is if the Year One wheels changed something over the years in how they are made that isn’t letting them clear. Marcus had experience where they didn’t, Year One as of last week says it works, we hopefully get confirmation from Year One that nothing, or nothing that physically changed on the wheels, to prevent them from working together.

If you already have ATS spindles, do you have the 17” N90’s too?

I bought mine before they were released on a pre order special. So I have the very first production run made.

Kind of funny how long I have stock piled parts to build this car.

Those are the 12” 98-02 Camaro brakes on my car, only difference is I’m using the 06 gto caliper instead of the Camaro.

Just send those 17” n 90’s I’ll let you know how they fit 😀

So, do you know if that same adapter bracket will work on the jimmy/blazer spindles. ? And where did you get your adapter bracket ? BTW, I called Kore 3 today and was suggested that the 12.8''/C5 kit would work on the N90-17'' 4.25 '' back space rims with a 1/4" or 5/16" spacer.what you all think about using one if it were billet?

Re: BIG BRAKE / N90 WHEELS 17'' - 02/21/18 03:00 AM

I'll have to do some research to where I bought these brackets. I originally was going to do the c5 front brakes, I even bought the 2wd blazer spindles to do them but Tobin at Kore3 informed me that they wouldnt clear my wheels with out a spacer, probably alot like the n90. Thats why I ended up doing the slightly smaller ls1 camaro front setup.

Heres my thread from when I did the brake swap. It has the info from where I got the brackets.

And Year One confirmed the wheels will clear when using the template from Kore3 that is for that, C5 calipers and the 12.8" rotors. So much confusion laugh . At some point there will be a clear cut answer.

Sounds good. So you have the AFX/ATS spindles, KORE3's C5 brakes and will be running the N90's as well?

all that except I have the jimmy/blazer spindles. once I order the parts ( I am in the middle of a engine build also ) I will mock it up and test it on the wheel. I will call Tobin tomorrow and get the ball rolling. I noticed I said "yang" which should have been ya'll. lol.

ok. installed the ZQ8 spindles with new moog hubs and the Kore3 kit. had to relocate the tabs for the braided lines ( used the stock self tapping bolts) . bedded in the pads , looks really good with the N90 wheels. Have new N555 G2's so going out today and hit some twisty roads . pics to follow.
