mini tub question - 12/02/15 10:21 PM

you prolly wont like this but here goes.
I like the rear and the front for that matter of my montes up high.i run tall springs in the rear and its up way higher than most of you would like.
I want to do a frame notch on the rear of my latest project and I think I can handle it ok but the sheetmetal in side the trunk is whats scaring me.the fact that you have to remove the trunk hinge bracket is what I really don't want to do.if I leave the car high in the back do you think I could get away with cutting it just under the trunk hinge support and leaving it all intact?

Hey not everybody likes the 26 inch, low profile slammed look...

There is a couple threads here about mini tubbing. The ones I am thinking about guys actually slice the wheel well and add an one inch strip. The trunk hinge mount shouldn't bother you considering the amount of cutting and welding that is needed to make this work. Good luck

as you can see this is the stance I like.
I think if my new project was to still be this high in the rear that I could leave the trunk mount intact and only add a strip os sheetmetal to bridge the gap I would cut out.

If you like that stance and wheel/tire look save yourself a lot of time and money and just get a wheel with the proper off set where you don't have any rubbing issues.

I agree with CJ84SS, that stance does not require notching the frame. It is high enough, & the tires stick out from the body enough that notching isnt required.

This is a 315 width rear tire, but it's lowered & the tire doesn't go past the body, so notching is required.

I knew you wouldnt like this!
this combo is 30 x 12 on 10 inch rims.
I want to run 31 x 16 0n 12 inch rims.
I don't care if it sticks out like it does now but I would like it to tuck in 2 inches more.

ps.....this is for another project.the monte above is my daily driver and mine and my wifes baby.

Just need to get the right offset and you will be good to go. Enjoy

What size tires do you have on there now? A 31x16 tire is pretty big tire, sidewall on a 31x16.5 m/t is almost 16". You'll need more then a frame notch. Depending on your state laws on how far outside your quarter panel the tire can stick out, you will have to narrow the frame, move shock mounts, and control arm mounts.

I've done a frame notch on my car, cutting the frame back to the inner rail. Even with the right backspace on the rim your looking at the tire sticking out at least 3". And that's a pretty tall tire, so it would be way up there in the air to clear the wheel lip.

it has the right offset right now but this tire is much narrower.
right now I can just get a little more than my hand between the frame and the tire.ive never had any rubbing issues at all.
if I notch the frame cant I gain 2 inches roughly?
